New Delhi, 8 December (Daily Kiran) – The third meeting of the Australia-India Education and Skills Council (AIESC) was held on Monday in New Delhi to boost cooperation in education and skill development between India and Australia.

The meeting was co-chaired by India’s Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Education, Jayant Chaudhary. From Australia, Education Minister Jason Clare, Minister for Skills and Training Andrew Giles, and Assistant Minister for International Education Julian Hill attended the session.

The discussions focused on strengthening institutional collaboration in school education, higher education, research, and skill development between the two countries. Both sides reviewed progress made in previous years and agreed on expanding academic pathways, enhancing bilateral student and professional mobility, and deepening regulatory cooperation.

A key highlight of the meeting was the handing over of a Letter of Intent (LOI) to the University of New South Wales (UNSW), ranked among the world’s top 20 universities, for establishing a campus in India. Earlier this year, four other Australian universities received similar LOIs. Currently, seven Australian universities are in the process of setting up eight campuses across India.

Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the AIESC meeting has played a decisive role in advancing the India-Australia partnership. He added that both countries will further strengthen cooperation in areas such as early childhood care and education (ECCE), teacher training, sports education, technology-based learning, and emerging fields like artificial intelligence, advanced materials, semiconductors, energy, medtech, and sustainable development.

Australian Education Minister Jason Clare, who chaired the meeting, said the India-Australia collaboration is mutually beneficial and symbolizes strong bilateral relations. Skills Minister Andrew Giles noted that both nations are setting global examples in the field of skill development.

The ministers also held bilateral talks agreeing to enhance cooperation in education, innovation, research, and collaboration spanning from pre-school to PhD levels.

During the meeting, ten new joint research projects under SPARC worth Rs 9.84 crore were announced. These projects will focus on AI, quantum technology, climate and energy, biodiversity, medtech, smart mobility, and space-defense sectors.

Additionally, multiple MoUs and LOIs were exchanged between Indian and Australian institutions covering areas such as agritech, marine sciences, teacher training, disaster resilience, job readiness, mining, and primary skill development.

Minister Clare extended an invitation to Education Minister Pradhan for the fourth AIESC meeting to be held in Australia. Both countries emphasized achieving more results within agreed timelines.
