Bhopal, June 18: AIIMS Bhopal will celebrate International Yoga Day on June 21 with a special program themed ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging.’ This event aims to highlight the growing importance of yoga in enhancing physical, mental, and emotional health at every stage of life.
The program will be organized by the Collaborative Center for Mind-Body Intervention through Yoga at AIIMS Bhopal. A group yoga session will take place from 7 AM to 8 AM in front of Kautilya Bhawan on the institute’s campus. Students, faculty members, healthcare professionals, and the general public are invited to participate.
According to AIIMS Bhopal, this year’s theme emphasizes the crucial role yoga plays in ensuring healthy and active aging amidst the rising burden of age-related and lifestyle diseases. It encourages individuals to adopt yoga as a lifelong habit, which helps maintain mobility, strength, mental clarity, and emotional resilience as one ages.
Ajay Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, stated that yoga is one of India’s most significant contributions to global health and wellness. He noted that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a holistic system that harmonizes the body, mind, and spirit. Regular practice enhances flexibility, balance, cardiovascular health, and mental well-being while reducing stress and anxiety. In the context of healthy aging, yoga can help individuals remain self-reliant, improve their quality of life, and prevent various chronic diseases.
He added that the importance of preventive healthcare is continually rising due to the increasing prevalence of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, and heart disease. Yoga is an easy, cost-effective, and scientifically proven method for disease prevention and health improvement. AIIMS Bhopal is committed to promoting healthy lifestyle habits through awareness campaigns, research, and community outreach programs.
Since the adoption of a United Nations resolution in 2014, International Yoga Day has been celebrated worldwide every year on June 21. Over time, this annual event has evolved into a global movement, with millions participating in yoga sessions to promote overall health, harmony, and well-being.
Officials at AIIMS Bhopal have indicated that participants in the June 21 program will have the opportunity to practice yoga under expert supervision, learn about stress reduction, improve physical fitness, and understand the role of yoga in healthy aging.
The institute hopes this program will further strengthen awareness of preventive healthcare and inspire individuals of all ages to incorporate yoga into their daily routines.
This event is part of AIIMS Bhopal’s broader efforts to promote wellness, disease prevention, and community health through evidence-based measures and participatory initiatives.
