BJPs Tactics to Undermine Opposition Criticized by Congress MP Tariq Anwar

New Delhi, June 18: Congress MP Tariq Anwar has launched a sharp critique against the BJP, addressing the alleged internal turmoil within the Shiv Sena (UBT), the provision of Y-plus security to rebel MPs, and the BJP’s strategies concerning the Samajwadi Party. He accused the BJP of aiming to weaken opposition parties to maintain its grip on power since 2014.

In an interview with a news agency, Anwar stated that the BJP relies more on political maneuvering than on winning public trust. He noted that this trend has escalated since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014. According to Anwar, the BJP’s confidence lies not in garnering public support but in achieving power and securing a majority by any means necessary. He pointed out that in several states where Congress or other opposition parties had received a mandate, governments were still changed. This ongoing trend reflects attempts to weaken the opposition and create a ‘Congress-free India.’

When asked about the internal situation within the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the potential for MPs to switch parties, Anwar remarked that affected parties have no option but to approach the courts. He emphasized that those who have mocked the Constitution now have no recourse but to seek justice through legal channels. Whether it’s the Trinamool Congress, Uddhav Thackeray’s party, or any other, going to court remains the only viable option. If justice is served, it would be significant.

On the issue of Y-plus security being granted to MPs who switch parties, Anwar criticized the practice, stating that leaders who change parties often receive special privileges and protection. He alleged that when individuals defect, they are rewarded with Y-plus security and other benefits, often involving financial incentives that can sway their integrity.

Responding to Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya’s comments regarding Samajwadi Party MPs, Anwar expressed skepticism about the BJP’s chances of success, believing that Akhilesh Yadav maintains a strong hold over his party and its MPs. He suggested that the BJP might struggle to execute its plans in that context.

Anwar also raised concerns about the recent loss of the Congress candidate supported by the INDIA alliance in the Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections. He noted that such occurrences have happened before in Rajya Sabha elections, influenced by political connections. He remarked that similar incidents have been observed elsewhere, and it is likely that Parimal Nathwani, a former Rajya Sabha member, leveraged his contacts to secure his position. The reasons behind this outcome will become clearer over time.
