West Bengal to Collaborate on Major Water Projects with Central Government: CM Suvendu Adhikari

Kolkata, June 19: The West Bengal government will now participate in all water projects associated with the Central Ministry of Jal Shakti. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari made this announcement on Thursday.

He shared the news via a social media post following a meeting with Union Minister of Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, at the state secretariat, Nabanna.

Adhikari stated that the central government‘s flagship initiative, the Jal Jeevan Mission, envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will now progress rapidly in West Bengal. He remarked, “This mission is a significant step towards realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of providing safe and clean drinking water to every household in the state’s most remote areas.”

The Jal Jeevan Mission is a key program of the Central Ministry of Jal Shakti. Its goal is to ensure safe and adequate drinking water supply through taps to all households in rural areas. Launched in 2019, the initiative has now been extended to 2028 to ensure long-term water security for everyone.

The Chief Minister also mentioned that the West Bengal government will collaborate with the Jal Shakti Ministry on important schemes like the Namami Gange program and the Jal Shakti Abhiyan. This partnership will benefit the state and ensure timely completion of projects of national importance.

In his post, Suvendu Adhikari criticized former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her administration. He alleged that the previous government was not enthusiastic about the state’s participation in central water-related schemes.

He stated, “For a long time, the previous state government attempted to halt, delay, and take credit for these crucial projects. However, that era of deprivation is over. The BJP government is committed to implementing these schemes on the ground without any hindrance.”
