Arunachal Chief Minister Welcomes CBI Investigation Amid Opposition Calls for Resignation

Itanagar, April 7: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has welcomed the CBI investigation ordered by the Supreme Court, stating it will help demonstrate transparency and accountability in governance. He emphasized, “We have nothing to hide. The truth will come out.”

The Supreme Court has mandated a preliminary investigation and instructed the CBI to register the case within two weeks and act according to the law. This inquiry will examine alleged irregularities in public works contracts from January 2015 to December 2025. The court clarified that the CBI may also investigate transactions outside this period if necessary.

The investigation will review records related to procurement processes, tender approvals, neglect of open tenders, and compliance with legal regulations, including payments, work orders, and project execution. The CBI has been asked to submit a status report on the investigation within 16 weeks. The state government has been directed to provide full cooperation, and the Chief Secretary must appoint a nodal officer to coordinate with the agency.

Meanwhile, the opposition Congress party has intensified its criticism, demanding the immediate resignation of Chief Minister Pema Khandu. State Congress President Bosiram Siram condemned the state government in light of the Supreme Court’s directive, alleging corruption, nepotism, and abuse of power in contracts exceeding ₹1,270 crore. He stated, “This is a gross betrayal of public trust and a clear violation of transparency and accountability.”

Siram cited moral responsibility, urging the Chief Minister to step down until the investigation concludes, ensuring an independent, fair, and timely inquiry without any pressure.
