Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar Engages with Indian Community During UAE Visit

Abu Dhabi, April 11: Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar commenced his two-day visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by meeting members of the Indian community residing there.

During this meeting, he highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian citizens amid the ongoing conflicts in West Asia.

Jaishankar took to the social media platform X to share, “I began my UAE visit with discussions with members of the Indian community. I informed them about the government’s efforts for their welfare and safety during the crisis in West Asia. I appreciated their contributions to the local society during these challenging times and acknowledged the support provided by the UAE government.”

Prior to arriving in the UAE, Jaishankar completed a two-day visit to Mauritius, where he participated in the 9th Indian Ocean Conference.

This visit is expected to yield significant outcomes in areas such as health, education, infrastructure, and green mobility. It also reaffirmed India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy, its vision for the ocean, and its commitment to the Global South.

Additionally, a Letter of Exchange was signed between the governments of India and Mauritius for the implementation of projects under the ‘Special Economic Package 2025.’

In the second phase of his UAE visit, the Foreign Minister will meet with top leadership to discuss strengthening the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

Earlier in the day, Jaishankar announced the safe evacuation of 312 Indian fishermen from Iran, who were brought back to India via Armenia.

He noted that Armenia played a crucial role in the evacuation of Indian citizens stranded in Iran. The Ministry of External Affairs had previously reported that over 1,200 Indian nationals had been safely evacuated from Iran, with 996 reaching Armenia.
