Kolkata, April 10: In preparation for the West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) released its election manifesto on Friday, referred to as the ‘Trust Document.’ Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled this pledge at an event in Kolkata.
The manifesto addresses key demographics, including women, youth, and farmers, promising various schemes and cash assistance.
During the event, Amit Shah stated that this document would guide Bengal out of despair. He asserted that it promises to establish the rule of law, boost employment, and contribute to the creation of a ‘Sonar Bangla’ (Golden Bengal). He remarked, “This pledge is a roadmap for Bengal’s development, providing new direction to every segment of society.”
Shah also launched a sharp critique against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). He noted that the people of Bengal, frustrated with the previous Left government, brought Mamata Banerjee to power. However, despite being given multiple chances, her government has failed to meet public expectations.
He alleged that under TMC’s rule, issues like ‘syndicate raj, goonda raj, and infiltration’ have escalated. Shah emphasized that the same populace that once supported Banerjee now feels insecure and disillusioned, yearning for change.
Regarding the manifesto, Shah highlighted its commitment to alleviating the agricultural crisis for farmers, providing opportunities for unemployed youth, and ensuring a safe environment for women. Additionally, it aims to instill hope and confidence in every citizen proud of Bengal’s cultural heritage.
He mentioned that the document aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Developed India,’ presenting a clear roadmap for Bengal’s progress.
Home Minister Amit Shah assured that a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against infiltration would be enforced. He promised to identify infiltrators, remove them from the list, and deport them. All government employees will receive a dearness allowance, and salaries will be based on the seventh pay commission. The Kurmali and Rajbongshi languages will be included in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Support will be provided for the cultivation of rice, potatoes, and mangoes. Under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, all fishermen will be registered, and West Bengal will be developed into a leading industrial and fish-export center to boost the economy.
He also announced that the BJP would provide ₹3,000 to every woman and implement a Uniform Civil Code (UCC), along with providing ₹3,000 to unemployed youth. The ‘Ayushman Bharat Scheme’ and all central government initiatives will be executed. Free HPV vaccinations, breast cancer screenings, and the establishment of AIIMS, IIT, and IIM in North Bengal will be prioritized. Furthermore, a ‘Vande Mataram Museum’ will be set up, and a law ensuring the freedom to follow religious customs will be enacted.
