
Kolkata, April 10: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made 15 significant promises in its manifesto for the West Bengal Assembly elections, released on Friday. The party aims to address the needs of various sectors, including security, employment, women, and farmers, branding the document as a ‘Trust Document.’
The BJP’s commitments include a strong stance against illegal immigration and a pledge to enhance national security. Additionally, the party plans to release a ‘White Paper’ on corruption and law and order issues during the 15 years of Trinamool Congress (TMC) rule. They also promised to eliminate the ‘syndicate raj’ and the ‘cut money’ culture.
For government employees and pensioners, the BJP has assured the provision of a dearness allowance and the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission. The party aims to create one crore jobs and self-employment opportunities for the youth over the next five years, along with a financial assistance of ₹3,000 for unemployed youth.
Special initiatives for women are also proposed. This includes establishing a women’s police battalion, the ‘Durga Security Squad,’ and reserving 33% of government jobs for women. Furthermore, every woman will receive a monthly financial aid of ₹3,000.
The manifesto also mentions the inclusion of Kurmali and Rajbongshi languages in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. For farmers, the BJP promises support for rice, potato, and mango cultivation, ensuring fair prices. Fishermen will be registered under the PM Matsya Sampada Yojana, with plans to make the state a major fish export hub.
The BJP has announced the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and the introduction of stringent laws to curb cattle smuggling. Plans for the revival of tea gardens, branding of Darjeeling tea, and modernization of the jute industry are also part of the manifesto.
In the health and education sectors, the party has pledged to implement the Ayushman Bharat scheme, provide free HPV vaccinations, conduct breast cancer screenings, and establish AIIMS, IIT, and IIM in North Bengal. Additionally, they announced plans to create a ‘Vande Mataram Museum’ and introduce laws to ensure religious freedom.
