Guwahati, April 11: Kunki Chaudhary, the candidate from the Assam Jatiya Parishad (AJP) for the Guwahati Central constituency, has been summoned by police for alleged violations of electoral rules during the voting on April 9. Authorities confirmed this on Saturday.
According to police sources, the Panbazar police station issued a notice under the relevant provisions of the Indian National Security Code (BNSC), requiring Chaudhary to appear before the Officer-in-Charge for questioning on April 12 at 11 AM.
Officials stated that there are sufficient grounds to investigate her role in the ongoing inquiry into the alleged irregularities. This summons was issued following the registration of an FIR at the Panbazar police station concerning violations of the Model Code of Conduct in the Guwahati Central Assembly constituency.
Alongside Chaudhary, members of her social media team have also been named in the complaint. It is alleged that incidents occurred on the day of voting when a political worker associated with the candidate was reportedly present in the constituency despite the mandatory 48-hour ‘silence period’ before elections.
The FIR further claims that Chaudhary entered a polling station with a group of individuals and interacted with voters in a manner that could potentially influence the electoral process. Additional allegations include the presence of vehicles linked to the candidate within restricted areas near polling stations, as well as the unauthorized entry of her security personnel into the polling premises.
Investigators have cited examples of alleged voter contact during the silence period, and it is reported that digital and video evidence has been presented to substantiate these claims.
Police have instructed Chaudhary to cooperate with the investigation, refrain from tampering with evidence, and adhere to all directives issued during the inquiry. Authorities warned that failure to respond to the summons could result in legal consequences, including potential arrest.
In response to the developments, Kunki Chaudhary confirmed via social media that an FIR has been filed against her and her team members. She alleged that some of her associates were held overnight and stated that she had already visited the police station to record her statement. She emphasized the importance of following proper legal procedures, especially when recording a woman’s statement.
Denying the allegations, Chaudhary asserted that her campaign strictly adhered to the Election Commission’s guidelines. She labeled the actions against her as ‘politically motivated,’ claiming they stem from the growing public support for her party.
