PM Modi Expresses Condolences Over Tragic Accident in Katihar, Announces Financial Aid for Victims Families

New Delhi, April 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the horrific road accident that occurred in Katihar, Bihar. He announced a financial assistance of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).

In a post on the official ‘X’ handle of the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi wrote, “The accident in Katihar, Bihar, is extremely tragic. My condolences go out to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured.”

The Prime Minister also declared immediate financial aid for the families of the victims. Each family of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh, while those injured will receive ₹50,000 in assistance.

So far, the accident has claimed the lives of 10 individuals, and many others are injured. Local authorities and the health department are actively engaged in treating the injured. The Prime Minister’s announcement is expected to provide some relief to the affected families.

The incident occurred on Saturday evening in the Koda police station area of Katihar district, where a passenger bus collided with a pickup van. According to police reports, the accident took place near the Basgada Chowk at the Bakhri Farm on National Highway-31.

It is reported that the occupants of the pickup were returning from a religious ceremony when the speeding bus collided with them. This head-on collision resulted in the deaths of 10 people.

Upon receiving news of the incident, local police promptly arrived at the scene to initiate rescue and relief operations. Approximately 25 injured individuals are being sent to nearby hospitals for better treatment after receiving initial care.

The police claim that law and order at the scene is fully under control, and traffic is being managed smoothly. All bodies have been taken into police custody. The incident has disrupted traffic on this route.
