Kolkata, August 5 (H.S.): The West Bengal government has extended the deadline for its centralised undergraduate admission portal to August 5 (Tuesday) midnight, in light of recent updates related to the OBC category.

The portal, which facilitates admissions to state-run and government-aided colleges, was launched on July 17. However, the process was interrupted after the Calcutta High Court put a stay on the revised OBC list in the state. The Supreme Court lifted the stay on July 28, allowing the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) and college admissions under the updated OBC categories to proceed.
Following the Supreme Court’s decision, the Department of Higher Education enabled students to update or upload their social category details on the portal starting July 29.
Chief Secretary Manoj Pant confirmed late Monday night that the last date to submit or update social category information on the portal has now been extended to August 5, midnight. The earlier deadline was August 4.
The Chief Secretary further clarified that candidates who fail to update their category information within the stipulated time will be treated as defaulters, and no further changes will be allowed at a later stage.
The Higher Secondary Examination results were declared on May 7. This year, a total of 460 state-run and aided colleges affiliated with 17 universities are participating in the centralised admission process through the portal.
