New Delhi, April 29: Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to establish a permanent solution following a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran. Negotiations, mediated by Pakistan, are taking place between both parties, but no resolution has been reached yet. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen emphasized the need to maintain the ceasefire in Iran and Lebanon through diplomatic channels.
She stated, “Our goal is to see an end to the war permanently and to restore complete freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without any fees.”
Von der Leyen also highlighted that any peace agreement must address Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs. The repercussions of conflict in the Middle East could significantly impact economic security in Europe.
According to a report by Iran’s Mehr News Agency, Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeed Iravani warned the United Nations Security Council that Israel remains a persistent and serious threat to regional and international peace. He referenced Israel’s ceasefire violations and attacks on civilian infrastructure.
The Iranian envoy called for a united response to achieve genuine collective security in West Asia, directly addressing the source of instability—the Israeli occupation.
He urged the Security Council to take decisive action to compel Israel to fully maintain the ceasefire in Lebanon, immediately halt all attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, and withdraw all occupying forces.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun condemned an Israeli attack that resulted in the deaths of three civil defense personnel. The deceased were attempting to rescue individuals injured in a prior Israeli assault.
According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency, President Aoun remarked, “This attack is yet another in a series targeting relief and first aid workers, demonstrating that Israel continues to violate international laws and charters that protect civilians, paramedics, civil defense personnel, and Red Cross workers.”
