New Delhi, April 29: The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), regarding a case linked to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) summons. The next hearing for the case is scheduled for July.
The ED approached the High Court after alleging that Kejriwal ignored summons related to the Delhi liquor policy case. During the hearing on Wednesday, the court issued a notice to Kejriwal based on the ED’s petition.
The ED had filed a complaint in the Rouse Avenue Court, accusing Kejriwal of disregarding summons issued for questioning. However, the lower court had acquitted him, stating that the evidence available was insufficient to proceed with a case against him. This ruling was delivered by Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Paras Dalal. The ED has challenged this decision in the High Court.
The agency claimed that Kejriwal failed to appear before them despite receiving five summons on different dates. They argued that ignoring summons from a high-ranking official sets a poor precedent, making action in this case necessary. The ED also alleged that Kejriwal created absurd excuses and deliberately avoided participating in the investigation.
Additionally, a hearing concerning the CBI case against Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia took place on Wednesday. Justice Swarnkant Sharma’s bench of the Delhi High Court postponed the hearing to May 4 due to some respondents not filing their replies.
Justice Sharma noted that certain respondents had yet to submit their responses and instructed that this should be completed by Saturday. The hearing will commence on Monday, with the judge stating, “We will summon the trial court’s records and begin the hearing on Monday.”
