Chandra Tal: The Heavenly Lake of Himachal Pradesh, Believed to be Home to Gods and Fairies

New Delhi, April 29: India is rich in legends, from temples to historic palaces. Temples symbolize miracles and faith, while palaces tell tales of valor and a prosperous past. But have you heard of a lake believed to be the dwelling place of gods and fairies?

Nestled in Himachal Pradesh, Chandra Tal is a stunning lake surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. This enchanting lake, often referred to as the “Heaven of Himachal,” is shrouded in mystery.

Located in the picturesque Lahaul-Spiti valleys, Chandra Tal showcases a different hue in every season. It is said that the lake changes colors multiple times throughout the day, and local beliefs suggest that it is so pure that deities reside within its waters. Some even claim that fairies visit the lake’s shores under the shimmering night sky. While these are merely beliefs, the lake’s beauty is enough to captivate anyone.

The blue waters of Chandra Tal, flowing between the high glaciers of Rohtang Pass and Kunzum Pass, set it apart from other rivers. In spring, wild purple and yellow flowers bloom along the banks, offerings made by locals to the gods. For trekking enthusiasts, Chandra Tal is an ideal destination, accessible only through the trekking routes of the Kinnaur-Spiti Valley. The journey offers serene views of towering mountains and nature, providing a peaceful retreat for travelers.

It is important to note that tourists cannot set up base camps within a 2-kilometer radius of Chandra Tal. If you plan to visit, ensure you arrange your accommodation and meals at least 2 kilometers away from the lake. Rental base camps are available nearby. Additionally, many areas around Lahaul-Spiti Valley and Chandra Tal lack mobile network coverage, so make sure to communicate with your family once you reach Lahaul. Bring all necessary supplies, including food and essential medications.
