New Delhi, June 24: The international president of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Alok Kumar, has made a strong public appeal for immediate legal action to safeguard the sanctity of the historic Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
Kumar shared a poster on his ‘X’ handle featuring a majestic image of the Ram Temple bathed in the light of the rising sun. In this poster, he outlined four key demands aimed at addressing alleged irregularities within the temple trust. The poster, titled “In the Matter of Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi Temple,” urged authorities to take concrete steps.
The first demand calls for the immediate filing of an FIR to initiate legal proceedings. The second emphasizes the need to expedite ongoing or necessary investigations related to temple affairs.
Kumar also requested the establishment or activation of a fast-track court to ensure daily hearings and timely justice in the case. Finally, the appeal stressed that those found guilty must face punishment.
Kumar concluded his message with the phrase “Jai Shri Ram.”
His appeal is linked to alleged irregularities in the donation boxes (hundi) of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which was established in 2020 following the Supreme Court’s 2019 verdict to manage the construction and operations of the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The trust has come under scrutiny due to alleged financial irregularities concerning donations from devotees.
Billions of rupees in cash, gold, silver, and precious items have been collected through donation boxes and campaigns, raising serious questions about missing funds. Initially estimated at ₹7-7.5 crore, later claims suggested the amount could be in the hundreds of crores.
A significant controversy arose from a land deal in 2021, where the trust allegedly purchased a plot for ₹18.5 crore, shortly after an associate had acquired it for ₹2 crore. This raised suspicions of overpayment and potential misuse of public donations.
In June 2026, new allegations from former employees and workers sparked political turmoil, prompting the Uttar Pradesh government to form a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the trust’s request. The SIT is investigating the accounting of donations, land transactions, missing valuables, and procedural discrepancies.
Kumar has demanded the filing of an FIR, expedited investigations, hearings in a fast-track court, and stringent punishment for the guilty to restore public trust. The trust has denied any major wrongdoing, stating that an audit is currently underway, while calls for greater transparency have intensified due to the controversy.
This new demand arises at a time when interest in the Ayodhya Ram Temple remains high across the country. Following the Supreme Court’s historic ruling in 2019 that resolved decades-old disputes, the temple was inaugurated in January 2024. Since then, it has become a major pilgrimage site and a symbol of Hindu cultural revival.
VHP leaders have consistently stated that any attempts to undermine the temple’s sanctity—whether through vandalism, encroachment, or administrative negligence—should be dealt with strictly under the law. The demand for a swift judicial process underscores the seriousness with which Hindu organizations aim to protect the hard-won victory achieved through the Ayodhya movement.
