New Delhi, August 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a delegation-level meeting with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the Presidential Palace in Tashkent. They discussed enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including trade, investment, and industry. This information was shared by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Saturday.
The PMO posted on the social media platform ‘X’ that the meeting was significant for India-Uzbekistan relations, which have now been elevated to a comprehensive strategic partnership. Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration in artificial intelligence (AI), development and technology, energy, space, healthcare, trade, education, culture, youth exchanges, and other areas.
Key officials present during the meeting included External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Secretary (West) in the Ministry of External Affairs, Siby George.
Meanwhile, President Mirziyoyev mentioned on ‘X’ that the state visit progressed with high-level discussions at the Kuk Saroy Residence. He and Prime Minister Modi talked about enhancing trade, investment, industrial, inter-regional, and cultural cooperation, agreeing to elevate Uzbekistan-India relations to a new level.
Before the talks, Prime Minister Modi received a formal welcome at the Presidential Palace in Tashkent. President Mirziyoyev warmly greeted him, marking the beginning of their discussions.
On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi was awarded the ‘Oli Darajali Do’stlik’ (Supreme Friendship Award) by President Mirziyoyev for his contributions to strengthening ties between the two nations. This is Uzbekistan’s highest honor for foreign leaders.
Accepting the award, Prime Minister Modi dedicated it to the 1.4 billion people of India, stating that it symbolizes the unbreakable friendship between the two countries and civilizations. He noted that the kind words from President Mirziyoyev encourage the long-standing friendship between India and Uzbekistan. He also emphasized that this honor reinforces India’s additional responsibility to work together with Uzbekistan as a global South partner for the welfare of humanity.
