New Delhi, August 31: The controversy surrounding the ‘purification’ incident in Haldwani has drawn sharp criticism from Congress MP Pawan Khera. He questioned when the state government would file a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the matter. Khera accused the government of unnecessarily invoking religion in this issue and noted that no FIR has been registered yet.
In a conversation in New Delhi, Khera stated that the issue should not involve religion. “Everyone has witnessed what transpired. The video of the purification has circulated widely. Now that the matter is gaining traction, the BJP-led state government seems unsure of how to proceed. They have yet to file an FIR,” he remarked.
Khera also highlighted the lack of condemnation from Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the disrespect shown to senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge. He expressed his anticipation for when an FIR will finally be lodged in this case.
He further pointed out that even those aligned with the NDA coalition harbor fears about potential tampering with the Constitution. “They stopped at 240 seats; otherwise, they would have dismantled the Constitution altogether,” he claimed.
Regarding the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program, Khera asserted that India has changed significantly. He remarked that while Prime Minister Modi connects with the nation through this program, he doubts that people still pay attention to it.
Samajwadi Party leader Rajkumar Bhati commented on a past incident where Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had cleansed the official residence of SP President Akhilesh Yadav with Ganga water in 2017. He criticized the mentality of those who revere animals as deities while harboring disdain for humans, calling it a reflection of outdated thinking in the 21st century.
Bhati condemned the incident involving Kharge as an affront to the Constitution.
