New Delhi, August 31: The Ministry of External Affairs reported on Sunday that a total of 149 Indian citizens have been rescued following the catastrophic floods in Nepal.
The Ministry shared the complete list of the rescued individuals on the social media platform X by 5:30 PM on Sunday. Meanwhile, a fourth flight carrying 11 tons of relief supplies has arrived in Nepal and the materials have been distributed.
In its post, the Ministry expressed solidarity with Nepal. The relief supplies include equipment for search and rescue operations, a technical team specializing in tunneling, forensic experts for DNA analysis, blankets, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, plastic sheets, and hygiene kits.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced on Saturday that 16 trucks have reached Nepal carrying equipment for a 230-foot-long single-lane modular steel bridge.
He mentioned on X that equipment for seven additional bailey bridges will soon be dispatched. Technical teams are expected to arrive shortly for installation. To date, a total of 68.5 tons of relief supplies have been delivered to Kathmandu, including essential medicines, portable generator sets, food packets, water purification tablets, and technical equipment.
Additionally, India’s Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, met with members of the Indian forensic team deployed in Nepal on Sunday. This team has been assigned to assist in identifying the bodies of victims from the devastating floods. He reiterated that India will continue to provide full support for ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Nepal.
The Ministry stated that Ambassador Naveen Srivastava met with the forensic team members, who will collaborate with their Nepali counterparts to analyze DNA samples for identifying the flood victims.
