Tehran, August 31: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Monday that it has launched a combined missile and drone attack on American air bases located in Jordan. This action was reportedly in retaliation for an alleged U.S.-Israeli airstrike on Iran’s Larak Island that occurred on Sunday night.
According to the Iranian news agency Fars, the IRGC stated that the Iranian military targeted the King Hussein and Al-Azraq U.S. military bases in Jordan. The statement indicated that the attack focused on the technical and maintenance structures at these bases, as well as locations where enemy fighter jets were stationed. The IRGC claimed that the attack caused significant damage.
In its statement, the IRGC emphasized, “Aggression and crime cannot diminish the enemy’s desperation to weaken the Islamic Republic of Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz. Every attack will be met with an even harsher and more destructive response.”
This assault followed an American operation in which U.S. forces targeted two IRGC rocket launchers on Larak Island. This island holds strategic importance near the Strait of Hormuz.
U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) spokesperson Tim Hawkins confirmed that American forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. He noted, “IRGC personnel were observed preparing to launch rockets with naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz.”
Hawkins added that the U.S. military is continuously monitoring the area and is prepared to ensure the safety of international trade through this crucial maritime route. Larak Island is a small island located near Iran’s Bandar Abbas coast, situated east of Qeshm Island and south of Hormuz Island.
On the other hand, the IRGC claimed that the alleged U.S.-Israeli attack on Larak Island resulted in casualties among military personnel and civilians. An official statement from the IRGC’s news platform, Sepah News, asserted that a response would be forthcoming, and the attackers would face consequences.
Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported, citing unofficial sources, that at least two individuals were killed in the alleged U.S. drone strike, with two others injured.
