Faridabad, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : BJP legislator Asha Nautiyal, attending a program organized by the National Commission for Women, commended the Uttarakhand government’s recent decisions. She emphasized that actions against illegal madrasas and the implementation of a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) are vital steps for women’s safety and equal education for children. Nautiyal noted that Muslim women feel more secure since the UCC’s introduction.
During her address, she expressed gratitude to NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar for convening women legislators from across the country. Nautiyal highlighted the strong participation of hundreds of female lawmakers from various states, showcasing the growing involvement of women in societal progress.
On the issue of illegal madrasas, Nautiyal stated, “This is the land of India, and Uttarakhand is known as Devbhoomi. Education is essential for the overall development of children.” She praised the National Education Policy’s implementation, which aims to provide equal education to all children. She mentioned that even parents of children attending madrasas have welcomed this initiative, advocating for equal educational opportunities for the benefit of society and nation-building.
Regarding the nikahnama, Nautiyal pointed out that many Muslim women have expressed their support for the UCC. Traditionally, some women faced hardship due to religious practices, such as being told that uttering “talaq” three times would end their marriage. She commended Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami for taking a significant step by implementing the UCC in the state, which has received national praise.
Nautiyal concluded by stating that the UCC acts as a protective shield for daughters in Uttarakhand. She noted that previously, incidents would occur without any trace of individuals involved. Now, there is clarity regarding the relationships of daughters, ensuring their safety as the government is informed about their circumstances.
