Guwahati, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed gratitude to Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan for his recent visit to the state, marking his first trip there. Sarma noted that the Vice President’s insights on Assam’s progress and his emphasis on enhancing cultural and educational ties with Tamil Nadu would inspire the people, particularly students.
In a series of social media posts, the Chief Minister highlighted that Radhakrishnan’s visit witnessed significant milestones in Assam’s education sector. He conveyed appreciation on behalf of the state’s residents as the Vice President prepared to move on to the next phase of his journey.
Sarma remarked, “His guidance and insightful discussions will serve as a source of inspiration for all of us, particularly for the students of Assam.” He welcomed Radhakrishnan’s focus on strengthening cultural and educational exchanges between Assam and Tamil Nadu, viewing it as a bridge to new possibilities rooted in their shared heritage.
The Chief Minister emphasized that such exchanges reflect the spirit of “Ek Bharat, Shrestha Bharat” (One India, Great India), contributing to better understanding and cooperation between the two regions.
During an event at Gauhati University on Monday, Vice President Radhakrishnan underscored the importance of language in preserving the memories, knowledge, and identity of a civilization. He praised the translation of Assamese and Tamil literary works into each other’s languages and called for increased academic and literary dialogue between Assam and Tamil Nadu.
At the event, the Vice President also released the fifth revised and expanded edition of “Bhupen Hazarika: Hundred Years of a Wandering Song” edited by Ankur Dutta and Nani Gopal Mahanta, as well as “Chandrakant Abhidhan.”
Radhakrishnan commended Gauhati University’s research in diverse fields, including endangered languages, multilingualism, the Brahmaputra basin, environmental sustainability, and Indian knowledge systems. He urged students to engage in research and innovation aimed at addressing community challenges and contributing to the vision of “Developed India 2047.”
The Vice President also praised Assam’s progress in education, infrastructure, connectivity, investment, and employment under Chief Minister Sarma’s leadership. He highlighted over 164,000 government appointments based on merit since 2021 and noted the launch of the first MBA batch at IIM Guwahati.
Sarma concluded that the Vice President’s message would continue to motivate Assam’s students and strengthen the state’s educational and cultural ties with the rest of the country.
