Ranchi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Ranchi, September 29 — The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand, Ravi Kumar, convened a meeting with representatives from recognized political parties to discuss the SIR-2026 process. The focus was on simplifying the verification of voter lists and ensuring that all eligible Indian citizens are included in the final electoral roll.
Kumar explained that the data related to unverified voters at each booth, along with any discrepancies, would be shared with the political parties. This information will enable them to verify each voter through their booth-level agents (BLAs). The same list will also be made available to Booth Level Officers (BLOs). If a voter fails to respond to a notice, the reasons will be investigated to maintain transparency throughout the process.
He emphasized that political parties could check the status of voters at each booth via their BLA-2 agents, helping ensure that eligible voters are included in the final list. Kumar clarified that the notice issuance process is ongoing. The first phase of hearings will continue until October 5, while some booths will see this process extend to October 12 and 15.
Kumar noted that voters who have already received notices can submit their responses and necessary documents online. Additionally, the verification process is being conducted door-to-door.
The CEO urged eligible voters to submit Forms 6, 7, and 8 for adding names or making necessary changes. He called on those who have not yet submitted Form 6 to do so within the designated timeframe. Kumar mentioned that a request has been made to the Election Commission to extend the timeline for the notice and verification process. However, he stressed that there will be no extension for filing objections, and adherence to the deadlines for form submissions is essential.
He also indicated that a request has been sent to the commission for additional time to submit documents related to notices and verification, as well as to change the publication date of the final voter list. Voters will be informed of the commission’s decision regarding this matter. Kumar appealed to eligible citizens to check not only their own names but also those of family members, friends, and neighbors in the voter list. He reminded those turning 18 by October 1, 2026, to submit their forms as per the established procedure. Voters who have received notices must respond to ensure their names are included in the final list.
Addressing concerns raised by the opposition regarding Form 6, Kumar stated that there have been no changes to the form. It continues to be used as per the Registration Rules of 1960. The SIR process also includes a provision for an additional declaration to support the self-declaration requirement. The Supreme Court has clarified the validity of this arrangement.
Kumar concluded by reminding voters that the directives issued by the Election Commission are based on Article 324 of the Constitution. He urged voters not to be confused about Form 6 or the SIR process and to complete the necessary procedures within the stipulated time.
