New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Congress leader Sachin Pilot, who is in charge of Punjab, has directed sharp criticism at both the central government and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) regarding the ongoing drug crisis and law enforcement issues in Punjab. Following a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in New Delhi, Pilot expressed concerns about the serious drug and gangster problems plaguing the state, calling for accountability from both the central and state governments.
Speaking to reporters, Pilot asserted that the central government has failed to control the drug menace in Punjab. He accused gangsters of operating freely, endangering public safety with gunfire. Pilot also criticized the AAP government for its inability to address law and order and other pressing issues.
He highlighted the irony that a party in power for the last 12 years, responsible for curbing drug trafficking and illegal arms smuggling from across the border, is now discussing drug rehabilitation in Punjab. Pilot questioned what actions the central government has taken in recent years to secure the borders of Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat against trafficking.
Pilot emphasized that the responsibility for border security and preventing drug trafficking lies with the relevant ministries of the central government. He urged the BJP to assess its own record before criticizing the Punjab government, recalling that the party had previously governed in Punjab alongside the Akali Dal and had a presence in the central government.
Referring to a recent incident at LPU, Pilot stated that it is indicative of a larger issue in Punjab, where individuals feel emboldened to act without fear of repercussions. He stressed the need for accountability in such incidents and the importance of determining responsibility.
On the Congress campaign in Punjab, Pilot noted that the party’s electoral efforts are ongoing. He mentioned that he has requested time from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi to visit Punjab soon. He affirmed that both leaders are expected to come to Punjab to bolster the campaign, asserting that the people of Punjab have high hopes for the Congress Party.
