Amritsar, August 3: On the first Monday of the Shravan month, the divine adornment of Lord Shiva was performed at the Shri Durgiyana Temple. A large crowd of devotees gathered to witness the ceremony. Priest Megha Shyam Lal Shastri shared that every Monday, Lord Shiva is adorned with grandeur.
He stated, “Shri Durgiyana Temple is very ancient. During the sacred month of Shravan, every Monday, Lord Shiva is specially decorated with flowers and various decorative items. Many devotees come here for water offerings, Rudrabhishek, and to pray for the fulfillment of their wishes.”
Shastri explained that on Mondays in Shravan, many devotees observe fasts and perform Rudrabhishek to fulfill their desires. Daily Rudrabhishek is conducted during this month, and devotees participate in these rituals.
He added, “The Shivling here is made of blue crystal, but interestingly, its color changes throughout the day. Sometimes it appears white, at other times blue, and even transparent, allowing one to see their reflection. This is also a divine play of Mahadev. The temple is beautifully adorned, especially on Mondays.”
Historically, the Amarnath Yatra used to commence from this temple. Shastri noted, “Earlier, it started from here in Amritsar, then moved to Jammu, and now it begins from Srinagar. Lord Shiva is the only deity who is easily pleased; even a simple offering of water brings him joy. Devotees observe fasts on the four Mondays of Shravan, culminating in a special celebration on the fifth. People fast according to their faith—some consume fruits, while others observe a waterless fast. Everyone should consider starting this fast. Throughout Shravan, Rudrabhishek is conducted continuously for 24 hours, and on August 15, it will also be held for 24 hours. Those wishing to participate in or conduct Rudrabhishek are welcome.”
