New Delhi, February 28: Uday Bhanu Chib, the president of the Youth Congress, has received significant relief. He was granted conditional bail late last night by the Patiala House Court in connection with the protests during the AI Summit.
Delhi Police presented Uday Bhanu Chib before the duty magistrate at Patiala House Court. The magistrate granted him bail on a personal bond of ₹50,000.
The Delhi Police Crime Branch had filed a plea to extend Uday Bhanu Chib’s police custody by seven days. They also submitted separate petitions for the remand of two other accused in the case. However, the court rejected the Crime Branch’s request to extend Chib’s remand. Following a petition filed by Chib’s legal team, the duty magistrate granted him bail.
In its order, the court stated that the Crime Branch failed to provide sufficient reasons for the need to extend the remand. As part of the bail conditions, Uday Bhanu Chib was ordered to surrender his passport to the court and also to submit his electronic devices.
The Youth Congress took to the social media platform ‘X’ to announce, “Satyamev Jayate. Uday Bhanu Chib has been granted bail. While the country was asleep at midnight, the judiciary thwarted every conspiracy of the Delhi Crime Branch. The police sought to extend Uday Bhanu Chib’s remand for seven days, which the judiciary denied, leading to his release on bail.”
The post further expressed gratitude, stating, “We are thankful to the judiciary and all lawyers who lit the lamp of justice in the darkness of night, heralding a new dawn against this anti-India trade deal.”
