New Delhi, June 13: Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party (SP), has raised concerns about potential election fraud in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. In response, leaders from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have suggested that Yadav has already accepted defeat ahead of the 2027 elections.
Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Chief Minister, Brajesh Pathak, reacted to Yadav’s claims, labeling them as a desperate attempt by the opposition to salvage their credibility. He noted that Yadav fears election fraud similar to what he perceives occurred in Bihar and West Bengal.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Chief Minister Pathak stated, “Leaders from the Samajwadi Party and Congress, particularly Akhilesh Yadav, are making such statements to protect their image, as they sense their impending defeat before the elections.”
Pathak also criticized the contradictory stance of the opposition alliance, saying, “When the opposition wins, they praise the Election Commission, but when they lose or feel their political base is shrinking, they resort to such claims to save face.”
This political exchange follows Yadav’s accusations that the BJP colluded with the Election Commission to manipulate elections in Bihar and Bengal. He warned that if similar corruption occurs in Uttar Pradesh, future elections might be jeopardized.
Yadav accused the BJP of employing campaigns like ‘Special Intensive Revision’ to rig elections and misleading female voters under the guise of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
Pathak dismissed Yadav’s allegations outright, recalling a time during SP’s governance when criminals and goons dominated. He emphasized that the people of West Bengal had given a significant mandate to the BJP, and public anger only surfaced after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was ousted from power.
He remarked, “The situation was no different during the Congress-SP rule in Uttar Pradesh. The mafia reign was rampant, leaving citizens at the mercy of musclemen and criminals.”
In a similar vein, Uttar Pradesh’s Minority Welfare Minister, Danish Ansari, countered Yadav’s claims by contrasting the SP’s ‘dark era’ with the developmental initiatives of the Yogi government.
Ansari stated, “The sole agenda of the Samajwadi Party is to obstruct the development efforts of the UP government led by CM Yogi and hinder the progress and prosperity of Uttar Pradesh. This party seeks to create obstacles to development and spread unrest in the state.”
He concluded by asserting that the BJP’s double-engine government is committed to delivering a corruption-free and crime-free state, which is why the opposition, known for protecting gangsters and criminals, is feeling threatened.
