Tehran, June 14: Iran’s former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, will be laid to rest approximately 130 days after his death. According to Iranian media, the burial ceremony is scheduled for July 4.
The official program for Khamenei’s burial will take place from July 4 to July 9. Events honoring Khamenei and his family will be held in Tehran, Qom, and Mashhad.
Khamenei and several family members lost their lives in an attack carried out by the United States and Israel on February 28.
As per a statement from the committee established in Khamenei’s memory, his body will be displayed at Tehran Mosalla on July 4 and 5, 2026. The funeral will occur on July 6 in Tehran, followed by a ceremony in Qom on July 7.
Finally, Khamenei will be interred on July 9, 2026, at the shrine of the eighth Shia Imam in Mashhad, where additional ceremonies will be held in Iran’s second-largest city.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei served as Iran’s second Supreme Leader, taking over leadership in 1989 after the death of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who led the Islamic Revolution a decade earlier. Khomeini was the ideological force behind the revolution that ended the Pahlavi monarchy, while Khamenei established the military and paramilitary systems.
In contrast, the current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has not made any public appearances since the attacks initiated by the United States and Israel.
