Tragic Death of 19-Year-Old Nursing Student in New Delhi Hostel Sparks Investigation

New Delhi, August 22: A 19-year-old nursing student was found dead in her hostel room in the Rajendra Nagar area of New Delhi. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

The student, a third-year B.Sc. nursing major from Najafgarh, was discovered hanging in her room by fellow students on Friday. They immediately rushed her to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where authorities were notified of the incident.

Upon receiving the report, officers from the Rajendra Nagar police station arrived at the hostel to initiate necessary legal proceedings. A crime team was also called to examine the scene and collect evidence.

Authorities stated they are looking into events leading up to the student’s death and are trying to determine the circumstances of the incident. Further inquiries are ongoing.

The administration of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital expressed shock and concern over the death, stating they are fully cooperating with the investigating officials.

In a statement, the hospital said, “We are providing complete support to the investigative agencies, and all necessary aspects of the case, including the circumstances leading up to the incident, are being examined.”

The administration added that they will provide any information requested by officials and will share further details as they emerge from the investigation.

The exact cause of the student’s death remains unknown, and more information is awaited.

This incident has occurred amidst ongoing concerns regarding student suicides in India. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), there were 14,488 reported cases of student suicides across the country in 2024, marking the highest number recorded in recent years. This figure is significantly higher than the 8,068 deaths recorded in 2014.

Statistics indicate that approximately 40 students committed suicide each day in 2024, highlighting growing concerns about mental health and other pressures faced by youth. The police continue to investigate the case in New Delhi.
