New Delhi, August 22: Enzo Maresca, the newly appointed manager of Manchester City, is focused on maintaining the club’s winning culture and upholding the high standards set during Pep Guardiola’s successful tenure.
Returning to Manchester City for the third time, Maresca emphasized that winning trophies is his primary goal as he embarks on this new chapter with the Premier League giants. In an interview with ‘JioHotstar’, he stated, “This is my third time coming to Manchester City. I hope it will be the last time I return, and I won’t be leaving again. I am excited for many reasons, the biggest being the club’s growth. It has always been significant for me, and I believe this is the right time to be part of it. I know the club well and understand the expectations. I am eager to start working and help this team achieve great success.”
Maresca is fully aware of the significant challenge ahead, given Manchester City’s remarkable success over the past fifteen years. He remarked, “Becoming the manager of a club like Manchester City is a massive challenge, especially considering the success they have enjoyed in the last 15 years. However, it is also an exciting challenge.”
He further added, “The goal is to continue the winning streak and maintain the high standards of the past decade. I believe the club wants to keep playing the same style of football, and that’s one reason I am here. Our aim is to achieve the most important task in football: winning trophies and attaining significant milestones. Our daily work will also determine how we approach things.”
Maresca, who hails from Italy, believes that his previous connection with the club will aid his transition into this role, as many familiar faces remain in the team. He noted, “When you join a club where you already have connections and know the people, things become easier. I know most of the staff here. As for the team, I might find four or five players who were part of the squad during my last stint.” He added, “For any manager, it’s a tremendous help to already know the leadership group, players, and club personnel. This familiarity makes the transition much smoother.”
