Sitapur, September 3: In Madhya Pradesh’s Sitapur district, flooding has affected over 50 villages, prompting the safe evacuation of at least 1,438 individuals.
The district administration, along with NDRF and SDRF teams, is tirelessly engaged in rescue and relief operations. Since August 29, heavy rainfall and rising water levels in the Mandakini River have led to a flood situation. Many low-lying areas are submerged, disrupting normal life and forcing residents to abandon their homes.
District Magistrate Pulkit Garg reported that approximately 650 houses have been damaged, with 70 completely collapsed. The administration is surveying affected areas and relocating residents from high-risk zones to safer locations. Relief camps have been established for evacuated families, and essential supplies are being distributed to those in need.
The NDRF has rescued 1,438 individuals, while the SDRF has saved around 100 people from flood-affected areas. Rescue personnel are deployed in risky areas, utilizing boats and other equipment to reach those stranded by the rising waters.
On Thursday, DM Pulkit Garg shared that a tragic incident occurred in the Barachi Gram Panchayat area under the Kotwali Karvi police station jurisdiction, where a mud house collapsed due to heavy rainfall, resulting in the deaths of three family members.
He stated that the district administration is providing assistance to the affected family and continuing relief efforts in the region. The Mandakini River remains a primary concern, with water levels recorded at approximately 138.52 meters, close to danger marks. The administration is closely monitoring the situation, especially with forecasts of more rain. The flooding has also impacted nearby areas, leading to the closure of the Mukundpur route in Maihar as water began to flow over bridges, disrupting road connectivity.
Weather conditions in Madhya Pradesh remained active on Thursday. The meteorological department issued a red alert for excessive rainfall in Tikamgarh and Damoh, along with an orange alert for 13 districts, including Gwalior, Bhind, Datia, Guna, Ashoknagar, Chhatarpur, Niwari, Panna, Sagar, Raisen, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, and Pandhurna.
Meteorologists indicate that this weather system may advance on September 4, potentially affecting several divisions of the state. So far, the state has received 714.2 mm of rainfall, while the normal rainfall for this period is 799.9 mm, indicating a shortfall of approximately 11 percent.
