Telangana Achieves Record Peak Power Demand of 18,139 Megawatts

Hyderabad, March 3: Telangana has successfully met a record peak power demand of 18,139 megawatts, marking the highest demand in the state’s history. Officials announced this achievement on Tuesday.

Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka stated that this is the largest peak demand ever recorded in Telangana. He congratulated senior officials and all employees of the state’s electricity utility for managing this unprecedented demand efficiently and ensuring quality power supply without any interruptions.

In a government statement, he remarked, “This milestone reflects Telangana’s economic growth, operational efficiency, and excellent coordination.” Despite being a smaller state, Telangana has reached peak load levels comparable to larger states and, in some cases, has surpassed them. This progress clearly indicates the rapid growth activities in industrial, agricultural, and urban sectors.

With a peak demand of 18,139 megawatts, Telangana can be compared to larger states like Madhya Pradesh, which recorded a maximum demand of approximately 19,900 megawatts, and Rajasthan, where peak demand ranged between 19,600 and 20,600 megawatts. Despite its smaller geography and population, Telangana has proven its capacity.

The statement also highlighted that Telangana has recorded higher peak demand than industrial states like Punjab, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh. The state is emerging as a leading region in terms of electricity consumption density.

Rapid growth in the IT, pharmaceuticals, construction, and irrigation sectors has been the main driver behind this increase. The rising electricity demand in Telangana is evident, with a peak demand of 15,623 megawatts recorded on March 8, 2024, followed by the highest peak demand of 17,162 megawatts on March 20, 2025.

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that Telangana is not only meeting current demands but is also fully prepared for the peak requirements of the upcoming summer. A robust grid system, well-thought-out strategies, and teamwork are our greatest strengths.

He further stated that Telangana’s power sector is designed to propel the state’s development. The dedication and hard work of everyone, from the control room to field staff, have made this success possible. Telangana is setting an example for other states.
