S. Jaishankar Visits Bulgarias National Historical Museum, Praises Rich Heritage

Sofia, June 10: Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited the National Historical Museum in Sofia, Bulgaria’s capital. He closely examined the preserved historical artifacts and cultural heritage, calling it a testament to dedication.

On the social media platform X, he shared photos from his museum tour and praised the art of heritage preservation. During his visit, Jaishankar observed rare relics and historical items that encapsulate thousands of years of history. He appreciated the museum’s extensive collection, stating that it offers insights into Bulgaria’s rich history and cultural traditions.

In a post on X, the minister expressed that witnessing the preserved heritage deepened his understanding of how carefully and dedicatedly Bulgaria has safeguarded its historical and cultural dimensions.

He commended Bulgaria’s efforts to protect its historical heritage, noting that such institutions play a crucial role in connecting future generations with their past and strengthening cultural identity.

This museum is considered the largest in Bulgaria and one of the richest in the Balkan region. Located in the Boyana district of Sofia, it encompasses human history from prehistoric times to the modern era.

According to its official site, the museum, established in 1973, houses over 650,000 artifacts, including coins, Thracian gold and silver treasures, ancient mosaics, and historical weapons. It is situated in a grand building that was once the residence of the former communist government, just 10 km from the city center. Notable highlights include the world-famous Panagyurishte Gold Treasure and the mosaics of Villa Armira.

In a subsequent post on X, Jaishankar mentioned meeting with notable individuals from various sectors. He wrote, “I met friends of India and prominent Bulgarian personalities.” Meaningful discussions took place regarding strengthening cooperation between India and Bulgaria.

Jaishankar noted that during the meetings, useful discussions were held on enhancing economic, educational, cultural, mobility, and people-to-people connections between the two countries. He emphasized that the relationship between India and Bulgaria extends beyond diplomatic and economic realms, showcasing strong ties between their peoples. New possibilities for deepening this relationship were explored in areas such as education, culture, trade, investment, and youth exchanges.
