Mumbai, June 10: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has directed strict action against hotels illegally occupying mandatory open spaces in the service area. This initiative is led by Additional Municipal Commissioner (City) Dr. Ashwini Joshi.
The crackdown has commenced across the Mumbai metropolitan area. The West Division Office has demolished unauthorized constructions at popular hotels on Veera Desai Road and New Link Road in Andheri West using JCB machinery. Additionally, seized items have been confiscated. BMC officials have warned against any future encroachments.
This operation was conducted by a joint team from the Health Department, Licensing Department, Fire Department, and Buildings and Factories Department, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner (Zone 4) Bhagyashree Kapse and Assistant Commissioner (West Zone) Chakrapani Ale. The hotels targeted included Whats Your Excuse, Trove 9, Juliet, and Yazu.
During the operation, the Health and Licensing Departments seized 24 chairs, one cooking range, one microwave oven, three coolers, one electric fryer, and two speakers. A total of 20 personnel, including departmental staff, workers, and fire brigade members, were deployed for the operation, which also utilized JCB machinery.
Assistant Commissioner Chakrapani Ale stated that these hotel owners had illegally expanded their service areas by occupying vacant land. Unauthorized constructions have been removed, and the related items have been confiscated. He emphasized that strict action against unauthorized constructions will continue in the future. Those constructing without BMC approval are being continuously identified. Legal actions and fines will be imposed on repeat offenders occupying open spaces.
