Patna, August 20: A delegation from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), led by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, submitted a memorandum to the Governor following a march at Lok Bhawan in Patna on Wednesday. The memorandum highlights various demands concerning students, youth, employment, and the education system.
The document calls for an investigation into allegations of AK-47 gunfire against students peacefully protesting in Siwan. It also demands timely appointments to vacant positions in government departments and improvements in the education system. The RJD emphasized that students and youth in Bihar are grappling with serious issues related to education, examinations, employment, and their future. The memorandum mentions ongoing irregularities in examinations, complaints regarding question papers and exam procedures, delays in recruitment processes, and rising unemployment.
The RJD expressed concern over any inappropriate behavior towards students and youth peacefully protesting for their demands, viewing it as a threat to democratic values. The memorandum requests a thorough investigation into the use of AK-47s during the peaceful protests in Siwan and calls for an impartial inquiry into the roles of the involved officials.
The party demands that the concerned officials be suspended immediately until the investigation concludes, with strict legal and departmental actions taken if found guilty. The delegation also urged the government to promptly address the demands of students and youth currently protesting in Gardanibagh.
The memorandum states that the government should engage in meaningful dialogue with the protesters and consider their legitimate demands sensitively. The RJD has also put forth several requests regarding the examination system, including the immediate resolution of complaints related to past examinations, a fair investigation into all examination-related grievances, particularly those concerning question papers and irregularities, and the establishment of an independent, transparent, and timely grievance redressal mechanism.
On employment issues, the RJD has called for the immediate preparation and public release of a consolidated list of vacant positions in all government departments, along with a clear recruitment calendar for these positions. The memorandum also demands that the recruitment process be completed within a maximum of six months. Additionally, the RJD has urged the immediate initiation of hiring teachers and staff at universities, ensuring transparency and timeliness in the recruitment process, and the publication of an annual academic calendar from enrollment to examinations and results. The party also called for addressing the shortage of subject-specific teachers and staff in government schools and ensuring adequate classrooms and basic facilities.
The memorandum asserts that the demands of students and youth are more about their future, dignity, and rights than any political bias. The RJD urged the Governor to take cognizance of these issues and direct the state government and relevant officials to take necessary actions to restore trust among students and youth in the system. The delegation included prominent figures such as Bhai Virendra, Uday Narayan Choudhary, Alok Kumar Mehta, and Ran Vijay Sahu.
