Explosion at Firecracker Factory in Champahati Injures Five

Kolkata, August 20: An explosion at a firecracker manufacturing unit in Champahati, located in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, injured five people on Thursday. Among the injured, two individuals are in critical condition; they have been identified as Padmarani Naskar (52) and Abbas Ghazi.

According to police reports, all injured were initially taken to Baruipur Hospital but were later transferred to a hospital in Kolkata for advanced treatment. The incident has caused panic in the area.

Local sources indicate that a loud explosion occurred in a house where firecrackers were being produced. Residents rushed to the scene upon hearing the blast. Five individuals inside the house sustained serious injuries, prompting a crowd of local residents to gather at the site.

One of the injured, a woman named Padmarani Naskar, was rescued and sent to the hospital immediately after the explosion. Meanwhile, serious allegations have emerged regarding the illegal manufacturing of firecrackers.

A segment of the local population claims that Bapi Naskar constructed a house in the nearby forest under the guise of a fish business. Allegations suggest that firecrackers were being manufactured illegally at that location. It is initially believed that the explosion occurred during the production process.

As of now, no concrete information has been released regarding the actual cause of the explosion. Police are investigating all aspects of the case to determine what materials were stored in the house, whether firecrackers were indeed being made there, and if any explosives or flammable substances were present.

Authorities are also looking into the possibility of illegal firecracker production based on local complaints. Upon receiving news of the incident, a heavy police contingent from Baruipur district promptly arrived at the scene.

Led by Additional Superintendent of Police Atish Biswas, police officials inspected the site. Various items and the condition of the house are currently under investigation. The fire department was also notified immediately after the explosion.
