Gandhinagar, August 20: The district and sessions court in Gandhinagar convicted two individuals on Thursday for their involvement in a methamphetamine trafficking case.
The National Crime Bureau (NCB) Ahmedabad zonal unit investigated the case, leading to the conviction of Shahida Bibi, also known as Saida B, and Radheshyam Solanki. Both were charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The NCB received a tip-off regarding drug trafficking from Madhya Pradesh to Gujarat. Acting on this information, NCB officials intercepted an Ashok Travels bus on NH-48 at the Chandrala police checkpoint in Gandhinagar on February 21, 2023.
The bus was traveling from Javra-Mandsaur in Madhya Pradesh to Ahmedabad. During the search, officials seized 198.90 grams of methamphetamine from Shahida Bibi and Radheshyam Solanki, both of whom were on board. Methamphetamine is a prohibited psychotropic substance.
The NCB’s investigation revealed that the duo was transporting a commercial quantity of drugs across state lines for illegal sale. According to the agency, Shahida Bibi was involved in the illegal trafficking and sale of methamphetamine in Ahmedabad, while bus driver Radheshyam Solanki was responsible for delivering the drugs from Javra to Ahmedabad. The seized drugs were found in their possession.
On August 17, 2023, the NCB filed a charge sheet in the district and sessions court. Following a hearing on August 19, the court delivered its verdict. Shahida Bibi, a resident of Sujalpur in Ratlam district, was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined ₹2 lakh.
Radheshyam Solanki, also from Javra in Ratlam district, received a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence and a fine of ₹1 lakh.
The NCB stated that this verdict followed an extensive trial. The case exposes an interstate drug trafficking network that brings methamphetamine into Gujarat via roadways. NCB officials described this decision as a significant action against drug trafficking in the state.
