Babulal Marandi Urges CBI Investigation into Jharkhand Exam Scandal

Ranchi, August 20: Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, has written to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, demanding that the investigation into all competitive exams, including the JPSC and JSSC-CGL, be handed over to the CBI.

Marandi expressed concerns that the previous CID investigation has led to a crisis of trust among candidates and the public. He believes that re-investigating these cases with the CID raises questions about fairness and credibility.

In his letter, Marandi pointed out that students have long been raising complaints and providing evidence regarding irregularities in the JSSC-CGL exam, but the government has failed to take timely action. He questioned why the government did not act on student complaints before ultimately deciding to cancel the exams.

He also mentioned the cancellation of the 11th to 13th Combined Civil Services Examination by the JPSC, citing allegations from Ramveer Singh and Abhay Tiwari, linked to TDP, that the interview board was allegedly influenced or “set.”

Additionally, Marandi noted that the arrest of Dr. Ajita Bhattacharya’s personal assistant, Brajram, in connection with alleged extortion during interviews has raised further concerns.

The letter claims that some candidates were reportedly called for interviews by the then JPSC president and members after decoding codes. If these allegations are true, Marandi argues, it would indicate a serious issue of manipulating the interview process rather than mere examination irregularities.

He has demanded that statements from all members and officials involved in the interview board be recorded. Furthermore, he called for an independent investigation into the board’s formation, candidate allocation, alleged coding-decoding, obtained scores, digital records, call details, and financial transactions.

Marandi raised questions about the role of senior CID officials in the JPSC case, suggesting that investigating the matter with the same agency creates a conflict of interest. He emphasized that due to past experiences with the CGL investigation, candidates no longer trust the CID, and their demand for a CBI investigation should not be overlooked.

The Leader of the Opposition also questioned the government’s decision to assign the investigation of the canceled exams to the CID. He noted that the government has canceled 22 exams and ordered investigations into potential irregularities in 17 of them. Therefore, he insists that all these cases should be investigated by the CBI or another independent central agency instead of the CID.

Marandi has outlined eight points for action from the Chief Minister, including a CBI investigation into the JSSC-CGL and JPSC exams, independent inquiries into the canceled exams, investigations into the roles of officials in the interview board, and securing relevant digital and financial evidence.
