Motihari, August 20: In a significant operation against arms smuggling, police in the East Champaran district of Bihar have arrested an individual with five pistols, five live cartridges, and ten magazines. The suspect was apprehended near the Majurahan firing range while allegedly supplying a cache of weapons.
According to police reports, they acted on a tip-off regarding a person carrying a large quantity of firearms to the firing range. A special team was formed under the leadership of the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Sadar-1 Motihari, to address the situation promptly.
During the operation, officers spotted a suspicious individual approaching with a bag. Upon stopping him for questioning and conducting a thorough search, they discovered the firearms and ammunition concealed within the bag.
The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammad Ahmed, a resident of Mustafapur in the Vibhutipur police station area of Samastipur district. The police have seized the recovered weapons and registered a case under Motihari police station case number 275/26. Investigations are now underway to determine the source of the weapons and their intended recipient, as well as to uncover any connections to a broader smuggling network.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer Dilip Kumar stated on Thursday that the police team acted swiftly based on the intelligence received, leading to the suspect’s arrest. He confirmed that further actions are being taken, and inquiries into the involvement of other potential individuals in arms smuggling are ongoing.
