China Criticizes Trumps Economic Campaign Against Iran

Beijing, August 20: China has criticized U.S. President Donald Trump’s campaign aimed at imposing economic sanctions on Iran and its partners. According to Beijing, such restrictions could further complicate the situation. The “Economic D-Day” campaign has been labeled as unhelpful in resolving ongoing issues.

During a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian stated, “Imposing sanctions and exerting pressure does not solve problems.” He urged all parties involved to take responsible steps and resolve issues through diplomatic and political means.

These measures will particularly impact China, as analytics firm Kepler reports that over 80% of Iran’s oil exports are purchased by China. If the U.S. imposes extensive sanctions on Chinese companies, banks, or shipping networks involved in buying Iranian oil, it could directly affect U.S.-China relations. This could be the most sensitive front of Trump’s new economic strategy.

Previously, the U.S. has already sanctioned Chinese refineries and shipping companies linked to the purchase and transport of Iranian oil. Trump’s latest warning suggests that Washington may expand the scope of these sanctions.

On Thursday morning (local time), the U.S. President announced “Economic D-Day” on Truth Social. He indicated that he would take the toughest measures yet against Iran’s partners and supporters. He remarked, “No one has given the Islamic Republic of Iran as much of a chance to negotiate as I have. It is unfortunate that they have not succeeded in taking advantage of it.”

He warned that Iran would now face an unprecedented level of economic warfare and isolation. Trump also cautioned other nations not to provide any assistance to Iran, warning that they could also suffer significant economic repercussions.
