Chennai, May 23: The tragic murder of a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore has sparked widespread outrage across Tamil Nadu. The incident, which involved the girl’s abduction and subsequent death, has become a major topic of discussion in the state. Political reactions have intensified following the incident. Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has expressed his condolences in a statement regarding the case.
In a post on social media platform X, Chief Minister Vijay stated, “The brutal incident involving a 10-year-old girl in Coimbatore has caused profound sorrow and shock. Such inhumane and unforgivable criminal acts can never be accepted in our society. I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and relatives who are grieving the loss of their beloved child.”
The Chief Minister also mentioned that two suspects connected to the case have been arrested. He instructed the police to conduct a thorough and swift investigation and to file charges promptly. “The Tamil Nadu government is determined to ensure that those involved in such heinous acts against women and children face the strictest penalties under the law. All necessary actions will be taken immediately in this regard,” he added.
Earlier, V. Sampathkumar, the Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, visited the family of the girl at the Coimbatore ESI Hospital to offer condolences. He stated that upon learning of the girl’s murder, he consulted with the relevant authorities. “It is unfortunate that this incident occurred before a formal complaint could be lodged. The police acted swiftly to arrest the culprits, and I have urged officials to expedite the investigation and file charges immediately,” he said.
Notably, the 10-year-old girl had gone missing two days prior to the discovery of her body, which was found near the Kannampalayam tank in Sulur on Friday evening. Her uncle, Palanisamy, reported that their family resides in Kolathur. They received information that the girl had disappeared after returning from a shop in the evening. Upon arrival, they learned that she had been kidnapped and murdered. The two arrested suspects have been identified as Mohan and Karthik.
