Guwahati, August 28: The Assam government has launched a 24-hour helpline to ensure the safe return of its citizens stranded in Nepal due to severe flooding. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that the state is coordinating with relevant agencies to guarantee the safety of those affected and facilitate their prompt return.
Sarma stated on the social media platform X that the government is in contact with the families of those trapped in Nepal, making every necessary effort for their safe return. Heavy rainfall and flash floods have severely disrupted life in various parts of Nepal, leaving many individuals stranded in different locations.
To assist, the Assam government has activated support systems through the Assam Bhawan in New Delhi. An announcement from the office of the Resident Commissioner at Assam Bhawan urged stranded citizens to reach out via the helpline for essential assistance, coordination, and information.
According to the announcement, the helpline numbers will be available 24/7 for emergency support and information related to those stranded. Officials from Assam Bhawan, including Anuran Medhi (ACS) and House Manager Vinod Kalita, have also provided additional emergency contact numbers.
In light of the grave flooding situation in Nepal, the Assam government has advised people to rely solely on official information and to seek assistance through the designated helpline in any emergency. The state administration is in constant communication with relevant agencies and is closely monitoring the situation of those stranded in Nepal to ensure their safe return.
