Dehradun, August 28: Uttarakhand has emerged as a model for soldier welfare, setting an example for other states. The state government has implemented several initiatives for serving soldiers, veterans, war widows, and families of martyrs.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state government has prioritized welfare programs for the armed forces community. Uttarakhand has become the first state in the country to establish a dedicated ‘Employment Cell’ for Agniveers returning home after completing four years of service in the armed forces.
Recently, the Dhami Cabinet approved this Employment Cell, which will assist Agniveers in finding suitable job opportunities. The state government had already announced a 10% reservation for Agniveers in government jobs.
Additionally, the government has approved a proposal to install statues of martyrs in their native villages. This initiative aims to preserve their legacy, inspire younger generations, and honor their families.
The ex-gratia amount for the families of Param Vir Chakra awardees has been increased from ₹1.5 crore to ₹2 crore. For the dependents of other martyrs, this assistance has been raised from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh. Financial aid for soldiers receiving bravery awards has also been enhanced.
Meanwhile, the construction of ‘Sainik Dham’ in Dehradun is complete, and preparations for its inauguration are underway. This memorial, dedicated to the martyrs of Uttarakhand, features soil brought with great respect from the homes and courtyards of the martyrs. Their valor stories are also displayed at this site.
The state government is also providing a government job to one eligible member of each martyr’s family. So far, 28 eligible dependents have been appointed to government service. The deadline for submitting applications has been extended from two years to five years.
Serving and retired armed forces personnel receive a 25% discount on stamp duty for property purchases up to ₹25 lakh. The government has also taken steps to assist serving soldiers and veterans’ families facing pending land fraud cases in district courts.
Chief Minister Dhami stated, “Our government is fully committed to honoring and ensuring the welfare of brave soldiers, veterans, war widows, and the families of martyrs. Sainik Dham will symbolize Uttarakhand’s rich military heritage.”
