Kathmandu, August 28: The recent devastating floods in Nepal have severely impacted many lives and caused widespread destruction. In response, Manish Jha, a Member of Parliament from Nepal’s ruling National Independent Party (RSP), expressed gratitude for the assistance and support being provided by India, emphasizing the role of a ‘big brother.’
Jha stated, “Sometimes we have our limitations. Our party chairman, Rabi Lamichhane, also mentioned in his speech that India, China, and Nepal must come together. We are three different countries, but we share the Himalayas, so this disaster connects all three.”
He further stressed the need for collaborative efforts, noting that the Chinese Foreign Minister also agrees. Recently, he posted on the social media platform X, highlighting the importance of working together to stay informed about potential disasters.
“I have witnessed this several times. I saw it during the earthquake and also during the floods in a neighboring district. At that time, there was significant concern for northern India, and the support we are receiving indicates a big brother role. This gives us confidence that we have a good neighbor,” Jha added.
According to Nepal News, the Ministry of Home Affairs reported that 13,295 security personnel have been deployed to expedite search, rescue, and relief operations following the severe flooding in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa on Wednesday morning. Among the deployed personnel, 7,250 are from the Nepal Police, 4,200 from the Army, and 1,845 from the Armed Police Force Nepal (APF).
Due to disrupted road connectivity in several areas, rescue operations are being conducted via both air and ground routes. Helicopters operated by the Army and private airlines have completed 69 flights, rescuing 351 individuals stranded in high-risk areas and transporting them to safety.
Following the catastrophic flooding in the Bhote Koshi River, a total of 258 bodies have been recovered from various locations, with search and rescue operations ongoing in several districts. The latest update from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) indicates that the recovered bodies include 2 from Rasuwa, 12 from Nuwakot, 27 from Dhading, 20 from Gorkha, 108 from Chitwan, 12 from Tanahun, 63 from Nawalparasi East, and 15 from Nawalparasi West. Meanwhile, Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra, also known as Balen Shah, has urged the nation to unite in these challenging times.
