SP Legislator Questions Modis Silence on Mansarovar at BRICS Summit

Lucknow, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : Ravidas Mehrotra, a legislator from the Samajwadi Party, sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not raising the issue of Mansarovar during the recent BRICS summit. Speaking in Lucknow, he highlighted the significance of this sacred site for millions of Hindus and questioned the government’s approach towards China, which currently controls the area.

Mehrotra pointed out that with leaders from twelve countries, including China’s president, gathered for the summit, the Indian government missed a critical opportunity to discuss the territorial issue concerning Mansarovar. He stated, “The Prime Minister had a chance to address the return of Mansarovar, a site of immense faith for countless Hindus, but chose to remain silent in front of the Chinese president.”

In response to comments made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding military operations, Mehrotra reflected on past terrorist attacks in India. He noted that while the Indian army bravely conducted strikes on terrorist camps across the border, the government later declared a ceasefire, allegedly under pressure from the United States. “Had the ceasefire not been declared, our forces might have made significant advances into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” he added.

Mehrotra also criticized the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), claiming it has become a “B-team” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He accused the BJP of using agencies like the CBI and ED to silence BSP leader Mayawati, suggesting that the party’s sole purpose now appears to be dividing non-BJP votes.

Addressing the BRICS menu controversy and Rahul Gandhi’s statements, he emphasized that discussions should focus on pressing issues like rising inflation and unemployment rather than trivial matters. “Corruption is rampant, development projects are stalled, and health services have deteriorated,” he said, stressing the need for a shift in focus to these critical challenges.

On the topic of healthcare in Uttar Pradesh, Mehrotra criticized the state government’s claims, asserting that the healthcare system is failing. He lamented the lack of essential medicines and timely treatment, which he argued has led to unnecessary fatalities. He pointed out that the government is opting for cheaper, lower-quality medicines instead of procuring from reputable companies.

“Today, the Chief Minister visited the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences and spoke about job creation. However, the reality is that hospitals are lacking adequate doctors, pharmacists, and nurses,” he concluded.
