Hassan, October 10 (Daily Kiran) : Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy has called for an investigation into the ongoing sting operation controversy in Karnataka. Speaking to the media after offering prayers at the Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple in Mavinkere, he raised questions about who targeted former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who leaked the video, and who is providing protection to those involved.
Kumaraswamy criticized Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for not taking action against those responsible. He asked, “There have been discussions over the past few days, and now this issue has resurfaced. Who conducted the sting operation? Is this some kind of joke? Have you turned politics into a game?”
Recently, Shivakumar claimed that there were attempts to entrap him through a sting operation since he became chief minister. He asserted that he possesses photographs and documents to support his allegations.
Meanwhile, BJP legislator B. Basanagouda Patil Yatnal alleged that Siddaramaiah was blackmailed and threatened over a personal matter, which left him feeling helpless and forced him to resign.
Kumaraswamy defended Siddaramaiah, stating that he served as chief minister for eight years and built his political reputation by serving the public. He further questioned, “Who conducted the sting operation against Siddaramaiah? Who are they, and what is their profession? What actions have been taken against them so far? Who is hiding behind the media, protecting them? Why is this happening, and who released the video?”
He attributed the “unhealthy political atmosphere” to the Congress leadership. In response to Congress legislator Ganiga Ravi showcasing a pen drive, Kumaraswamy clarified that it referenced irregularities in the transfers of engineers in the irrigation department when Shivakumar was a minister.
Kumaraswamy reiterated his campaign against irregularities in the NICE infrastructure project, accusing the company of violating court orders and framework agreements, thereby depriving farmers of their land. He noted that neither Shivakumar nor the company has responded to his documents.
He also criticized the alleged past irregularities of the Deputy Commissioner of Hassan and the management of the Ganesh idol immersion arrangements, urging better coordination between the district administration and police. “If the administration does not coordinate, how will it function? Such behavior is unacceptable,” he remarked.
