Patna, June 8: The recent nomination of Sunil Singh as a candidate for the Bihar Legislative Council elections by the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has led to rising discontent within the party. This internal unrest has caught the attention of opposition parties.
Following the resignation of Shivchandra Ram from his position as the national president of the RJD’s Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe cell, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi criticized the RJD, stating that such occurrences are not new for the party.
In a post on the social media platform X, Manjhi referred to Shivchandra Ram as a brother and remarked, “What the RJD did to Shivchandra Ram is nothing new. They only stop where there’s substantial gain, and our community lacks the resources to satisfy them.”
He further claimed that the RJD has the highest illegal encroachments on land designated for SC/ST communities. “Expecting anything from those who do not spare even the land of the poor is futile,” he added, assuring that the Hindustani Awam Morcha stands with Shivchandra Ram.
The discontent within the RJD is evident following the party’s decision to nominate Sunil Singh again for the MLC elections. Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD national president Lalu Yadav, has openly opposed this decision, while Shivchandra Ram’s resignation from his leadership role highlights the growing dissatisfaction.
In his two-page resignation letter addressed to Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the national executive president of the RJD, Shivchandra Ram accused the party of neglecting the Dalit community and its workers regarding the vacant seat in the Legislative Council. He expressed that there was hope among Dalits, the Ravidas community, and many dedicated workers for this seat, but recent events have only increased feelings of disappointment and pain within the community.
