Chandigarh, August 28: The Punjab government has issued directives for strict action against government employees who are unauthorizedly absent from duty. A notification regarding this has also been released.
According to official sources, a letter from the Punjab government’s Personnel Department, dated August 27, 2026, indicates that complaints have been received through various channels about officials and employees not being present at their posts, causing inconvenience to the public.
The government has instructed all administrative secretaries and department heads to compile a list of absent employees in their respective departments and submit it to the General Administration Department by the end of the working day.
The letter clarified that necessary actions will be taken against absent employees as per the applicable service rules.
Reports suggest that many employees across Punjab’s government offices have taken collective leave without prior notice, leading to a complete halt in government operations. This situation has also affected higher authorities. In light of these circumstances, the state government has decided to take stringent measures against officials who remain on leave without notice, ensuring that operations are not disrupted in any manner.
Officials are protesting against the Punjab government regarding their demands. They assert that the government must consider their requests. The protests will continue until their demands are addressed.
Additionally, the Punjab government has requested a list of all officials currently on leave from the relevant departments. These officials will be identified accordingly.
