Dehradun, August 28: In a gesture of goodwill for the festival of Raksha Bandhan, the Uttarakhand government has announced free bus travel for women across the state. On this special occasion, sisters will be able to travel for free on buses operated by the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. Following this decision, the transport department has ramped up preparations to accommodate the expected surge in passengers.
The Kashipur depot, among others, is making additional arrangements to ensure better transportation services for female travelers on Raksha Bandhan. Anwar Kamal, the station in charge at the Kashipur Roadways depot, stated that the frequency of buses on local routes will be increased. Several buses will operate double rounds to minimize waiting times for passengers.
Additionally, the number of buses on the Delhi route has been raised. Typically, around eight buses operate on this route, but this will be increased to twelve for the festival. Extra buses have also been arranged for the Dehradun route to manage the anticipated crowd.
Roadways officials noted that a significant number of women use buses to visit their brothers during Raksha Bandhan. To ensure a smooth travel experience, the availability and frequency of buses are being enhanced. Anwar Kamal emphasized that the Uttarakhand government’s initiative to provide free bus travel is a gift for the sisters on this festival. The Kashipur depot has completed its preparations in anticipation of the expected passenger influx.
