Patna, June 8: Discontent is growing within the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) following the party’s decision to nominate Sunil Singh again for the Bihar Legislative Council elections. Rohini Acharya, daughter of party president Lalu Yadav, has openly criticized this decision. In a significant move, former minister Shivchandra Ram has resigned from his position as the national president of the RJD’s Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe cell.
In a two-page resignation letter addressed to Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, the party’s national executive president, Shivchandra Ram accused the party of neglecting the Dalit community and its workers regarding the vacant Legislative Council seat.
Ram expressed that there was hope among the Dalit and Ravidas communities, as well as among thousands of dedicated workers, for representation in the Legislative Council. However, recent developments have led to increased disappointment and pain within the community. He stated that he has no desire for any position, but remaining in office while ignoring the sentiments of those who placed their trust in him is morally unacceptable.
In his letter, he also called for a clear policy to ensure the participation of Dalits, tribals, backward classes, extremely backward classes, and minorities in both the Legislative Council and the Rajya Sabha.
Shivchandra Ram expressed gratitude to Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi, and the party leadership, affirming that he will continue to fight for social justice, respect, and equality. His resignation is being viewed within the party as a reflection of dissatisfaction regarding Dalit representation and organizational issues.
He clarified in his letter that this resignation pertains only to his position and not to his active membership in the party. “I will remain an active member of the party. My belief in the ideology of social justice and the party remains unshaken, but it is impossible for me to stay in this position while ignoring the pain of my community,” he wrote.
He added, “The community has also expressed its trust in the RJD and its leadership. Thousands of workers have worked tirelessly. We all believed that our struggles and dedication would be honored. However, recent events have shaken me to the core.”
Earlier, Rohini Acharya had voiced her opposition to this decision on social media, stating that there are many dedicated, respected, grassroots-level loyalists from the minority community who have stood firm with the party since its inception. Ignoring such individuals, who come from the Yadav, Dalit, backward, and marginalized communities, is a serious concern and certainly not in the party’s interest.
