Chennai, August 28: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and the Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) successfully concluded the second edition of the joint maritime exercise ‘Cooperation Hop-Tac’ near Chennai on Thursday. This exercise showcased the shared commitment of both nations towards regional stability and maritime security.
According to reports, the strategic exercise involved significant operational deployment, including eight ICG ships, six aircraft, and a vessel from the VCG. The activities were jointly monitored by the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard and the Vice Commandant of the Vietnam Coast Guard.
Conducted to enhance tactical interoperability and streamline search-and-rescue operations, this intensive exercise helped both forces align emergency protocols and improve coordination at sea.
The successful execution of this exercise marks a significant milestone in strengthening the bilateral maritime security framework, facilitating the exchange of critical operational expertise, and further solidifying the long-standing cooperation between India and Vietnam in the Indo-Pacific region.
Previously, the Indian and Vietnam Coast Guards held their 7th high-level meeting in Chennai on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. Co-chaired by ICG DG Paramesh Shivmani and VCG Vice Commandant Major General Luong Dinh Hung, the meeting focused on enhancing mutual cooperation in key areas such as maritime search and rescue (SAR), law enforcement at sea, addressing marine pollution, and capacity building.
Both parties reviewed ongoing cooperation, including professional exchanges and ship visits, and reiterated their commitment to enhancing collaboration and interoperability.
